Background
The Dancing for a Difference philosophy has been an ongoing effort to provide outlets for children to make a difference in other people’s lives. This has resulted in over $45,000 since 2003 in donations to The Greater Pittsburgh Women’s Center and Shelter, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Make-A-Wish Foundation®, Gilda’s Club, The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, as well as some local families dealing with medical bills.
In 2009, the decision to sponsor the First Annual Unity In Community 5K Run/1 Mile Walk was made. Instead of raising money to donate to national non-profits, we decided to provide assistance to non-profits in our own communities. By inviting area schools and churches to form teams and raise pledges, we are allowing them to raise money to further their children’s programs. In addition, other participants will have the opportunity to help the community groups or have their money donated to one of our Dancing For A Difference children’s charities (Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or Make-A-Wish Foundation®).
